“Where does it actually go?” is the question we get asked most, usually while the van is being loaded.
Step one: the transfer station
Every load goes to a licensed waste transfer station, where it is weighed in and tipped onto a sorting floor. This is where the waste transfer note is generated.
Step two: sorting
A picking line separates timber, metal, plasterboard, cardboard, rubble and plastics. Timber is chipped, metal is baled, rubble is crushed into aggregate.
Step three: what is left
The residual fraction — genuinely mixed, contaminated material — goes to energy recovery rather than landfill wherever capacity allows. Across the last twelve months, 92% of what we collected was recycled, reused or recovered.
The things that take a different route
Fridges are degassed at a specialist facility. Mattresses go to a recycler that separates springs, foam and fabric. Reusable furniture is offered to local charities before anything else happens to it.
